Windows 10 received a lot of criticism regarding privacy, which was true mostly. And why should it not? It sends whatever you search in Start menu/Cortana to Microsoft servers. Similar stuff happens on Android phones and iOS, whatever you search for in either of those devices, it will go straight to the search engine’s servers, which is then evaluated to display you with suggestions.
Windows 10 Start menu or Cortana let you search web directly. But with that “helpful” feature comes a privacy nightmare. Imagine typing your social security number, bank details or other stuff in Cortana, trying to look that up on your computer, but at the same time, all that stuff is going to Bing servers. Scary, isn’t? So if you’re looking to disable Bing search, here’s how to do that:
- To disable Bing integration with Cortana, you need to disable Cortana as well.
- Which can be done from Cortana settings, search for “cortana settings” in Start menu and open Cortana & Search settings item
- Flip the switch to off for first item, new option will appear namely “Search online and include web results“. Flip “off” for second option as well. And voila!
